Our titular paraphrase from the Sonnet On His Blindness, “They also serve who stand and wait.”  The origin of this famous quote was written by poet, John Milton, after he went blind. Circa 1600’s.

“When I consider how my light is spent
Ere half my days in this dark world and wide,
And that one Talent which is death to hide
Lodged with me useless, though my soul more bent
To serve therewith my Maker, and present
My true account, lest He returning chide,
“Doth God exact day-labour, light denied?”
I fondly ask. But Patience, to prevent
That murmur, soon replies, “God doth not need
Either man’s work or his own gifts. Who best
Bear his mild yoke, they serve him best. His state
Is kingly: thousands at his bidding speed,
And post o’er land and ocean without rest;
They also serve who only stand and wait.”

This quote is so popular that it has appeared in thousands of print media, in everyday conversations and also as part of the title of a movie:  They Also Serve (1940) – IMDb, a war-time themed classic.

John Milton

John Milton certain has left his stamp, which brings us to our Quick-Seat Chair. At Quick-Seat Chair, we know that people throughout the world serve in a myriad of ways, both sitting or standing or running, and even jumping. However, in coming up with the perfect design for our chair we wanted to make sure that sitting and being able to sit as conveniently as possible was in the forefront of its unique design.

We know the importance of having easy-to-access seating available. Someday we hope it will be as common as access ramps and baby changing stations These accessibility amenities are considered essential in retail, wholesale, health care and hospitality venues.

Today, the fact that Quick-Seat Chair is most times an after-thought. BUT, we are ALL ABOUT  creating the design to fill that need. It’s one of the things that we love best about Quick-Seat Chair. It can be installed in older historic buildings that are now used as offices, as well as retail sites that need to cater to a population of “Baby Boomers” who require seating that can be folded back up and out of the way. Transportation vehicles such as ambulances, trains and, even trucks can all benefit from the fold-up yet ample seating that Quick-Seat Chair provides. Quick-Seat works in new designs or in an already existing environments.

John Milton understood the concept of functionality, too, even after he lost his sight. Rather than feel that he would be unable to be useful, his mind grasped and so eloquently expressed that even though a man should be able only to stand, he could also serve. If John Milton had a Quick-Seat Chair, the line from the famous poem would have most surely read, “They also serve who sit and wait.” We believe this, for how many times have you been on-line waiting, or sitting, maybe with a worry in your mind, when the person next to you says just the right thing to brighten your day?

When we created Quick-Seat Chair, we had a vision of simplicity, functionality and serving the greater good, which is how our motto came about, “Always there when you need it.”
